Dr. Katherine A. Markelz D.O. is a board certified Internal Medicine physician. She has been practicing traditional osteopathy and general internal medicine since 2019. Her passion for osteopathy lead her to found Whole Health Osteopathy in 2024.
Dr. K. Markelz studied Behavioral Neuroscience, Nutrition, and Spanish and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. She worked at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine as a research coordinator, leading research studies and quality improvement projects with the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine group. She went on to study medicine at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Oregon. It was there that she fell in love with Osteopathy, and completed a 1 year pre-doctoral fellowship in Osteopathic Medicine. She came back east for Internal Medicine Residency at Baystate Medical Center, which she graduated in 2019.
Dr. K. Markelz is a member of the Society for General Internal Medicine and the Osteopathic Cranial Academy. Before founding Whole Health Osteopathy, she served as an attending physician and general internal medicine faculty at Baystate Medical Center/UMass Medical School.
Dr. K. Markelz has a specialty practice in traditional osteopathy, treating acute and chronic conditions with osteopathic manipulative treatment. Throughout her medical training and practice, she has seen profound effects of osteopathy. She believes that the best medicine is that which focuses on finding and supporting health, rather than disease. She sees human touch as a vital part of connecting with patients and providing therapeutic and treatment benefits. Her awe of human anatomy and physiology and our tendency toward resilience and health keeps her passionate about her work in osteopathy.
At home, she is a busy mom of two sweet boys and one goldendoodle, and wife of a loving partner of many years. She has been in the Pioneer Valley since 2016, a place she now calls home. She takes food and the outdoors seriously, and is appreciative of all the local area farms/CSAs and outdoor trails/mountains/waterways. She's always up for exploring new hikes, museums, art and activities around the area.
"I am so excited to open Whole Health Osteopathy, and even more excited to share this with you. As a busy mom and physician, I understand the challenges of balancing self-care with life's responsibilities. I strive to meet you where you are at, and work with you to find the best way forward toward your most healthful, authentic self. I look forward to meeting you."
